Site Operations Manager

Run the day-to-day operation of Operation 1, our rail-served transfer station in Detroit. You'll own throughput, safety, and uptime for the facility from pre-opening through ramp—building the playbook we'll replicate across the corridor. This is a hands-on, on-site leadership role for someone who has run a transfer station, MRF, or rail-served yard before.
Key Responsibilities
- •Own daily operations: inbound gate, scale, tipping floor, sorting, and rail transload
- •Build and lead the operations crew—hiring, scheduling, training, and performance
- •Hit throughput, safety, and cost-per-ton targets while maintaining permit compliance
- •Stand up and refine the operating playbook that future McCoy sites will replicate
- •Coordinate rail moves, hauler relationships, and outbound logistics
- •Partner with automation and engineering to deploy and tune yard and sorting systems
- •Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
- •7+ years in waste, recycling, rail, or heavy industrial operations, including team leadership
- •Hands-on experience running a transfer station, MRF, landfill, or rail-served yard
- •Strong grasp of safety culture, OSHA requirements, and environmental permitting
- •Proven ability to hit throughput and cost-per-ton targets
- •Comfortable building an operation from the ground up, not just maintaining one
- •Willing to be on-site in Detroit daily
Preferred Qualifications
- •Experience opening or commissioning a new facility
- •Familiarity with rail transload and Class I railroad coordination
- •Exposure to automated sorting or autonomous yard equipment
- •Knowledge of Michigan (EGLE) solid-waste regulations
- •Lean / Six Sigma or other continuous-improvement training
